Like many others, we lost a huge chunk of our income last year. Although I’ve always felt I’m somewhat thrifty, I’ve gained a whole new appreciation for just how scarce money can get! Resourcefulness takes on a new meaning when you have to pack it up in a storage room and move in with relatives. Being the sentimental packrat that I am, having to let go of many precious things was hard enough, never mind the trauma of not knowing what our financial future would hold.
Sharing one household has been a challenge as well. Not only have I gotten a lot of practice at maximizing a much smaller income, maximizing a much smaller space has been interesting too! Downsizing from a 6 room house into 2 small rooms, wow, what a trip! But, I’m thankful we had a house sharing option. It could be worse, no doubt.
I work at staying positive, focused, and upbeat. Through not only this experience, but many others before, I’ve learned that grief and pain are always as close as a fleeting thought, but it takes some effort to find and focus on the good. A conscious decision to focus on what’s right in the world, and pay no attention to anything other than that.
One of the ways we’ve found to make lemonade out of the latest lemons is this freebie website. It’s truly become a bright spot in our lives. We enjoy getting all the freebies ourselves and sharing them with you! It’s exciting to get gifts in the mailbox. You never know what will show up on any given day. I’ll also be sharing some of the interesting ways we’ve found to work with what we have when we can’t buy what we need.
I hope you enjoy the site and visit often!
